Bee Seen, Get Screened: Supporting cancer screening

At GM4Women2028, our mission is to create an equal, fairer Greater Manchester for women and girls – including the ability to live healthier, longer and more active lives.

That’s why we’ve signed the Bee Seen, Get Screened pledge in partnership with Answer Cancer, the Greater Manchester Screening Engagement Programme, to make cancer screening easier and raise awareness of the importance of early detection.

Making time for health

Cancer can be a difficult subject to talk about, but screening is one practical way to take action. The Bee Seen, Get Screened campaign highlights the key role employers can play in removing some of the barriers that prevent people from attending screening checks.

Making time for screening can make a significant difference. Work is a major part of most people's lives, and practical support from employers can remove one of the barriers that might otherwise lead someone to postpone or miss an appointment.

Why cancer screening matters

Screening is designed to identify cancer – or changes that could potentially become cancer – before symptoms appear. This means treatment can often begin earlier, when it can be more effective.

Supporting healthier women

The Bee Seen, Get Screened pledge is particularly relevant to our Culture and Active Lives thematic area. Our vision is a Greater Manchester region where women and girls have access to the information, opportunities and support they need to look after their health.

For many women, competing responsibilities such as work, caring and family life can make it difficult to find time for appointments. Creating a workplace culture where taking time for preventative healthcare is actively supported is a critical part of building healthier lives.

A commitment that can make a difference

The Bee Seen, Get Screened campaign is based on a simple principle: people shouldn’t have to choose between going to work and wellbeing. Screening could make a life-changing difference – and empowering people to feel able to do so is something we can all play a part in.

By signing the pledge, we’re adding our voice to a growing movement across Greater Manchester encouraging employers to make cancer screening a normal element of working life.
