Women in politics and law
Representation matters – and ensuring women’s voices are heard in politics and law is vital to achieving gender equality across Greater Manchester.
That’s why we’re inviting women, girls and male allies from all ten boroughs to join our upcoming participation thematic workshop, hosted by Dr Rosie Shorrocks and Helen Pankhurst CBE. Our one-hour online session on 20th November will define the next phase of our work on women’s political representation and legal leadership – as we move closer to our 2028 goals.
An introduction to our participation group
By way of background, our participation group is focused on strengthening gender balance in Greater Manchester’s political and legal structures. Our campaign has been focused on:
Asking authorities to adopt carers’ leave policies, thus helping councillors balance public service and personal responsibilities.
Pushing for better diversity data to track progress on women’s representation, particularly for women of colour who make up just 6% of councillors.
Building leadership capacity and pathways for women to enter and stay in politics and law, including shadowing arrangements.
Read about the work of our participation group on pages 23 to 27 of our latest Pankhurst-Fawcett Scorecard.
Attend our 20th November workshop
But there’s more to do. Our 20th November workshop is a space to reflect, refocus and recruit – deciding together what comes next and inviting volunteers to take on key roles within the participation group alongside current lead, Rosie.
Date: Thursday 20th November
Time: 12pm to 1pm
Whether you’re a councillor, campaigner, lawyer, student or simply passionate about women’s voices in leadership, this is your chance to shape change across Greater Manchester. Let’s work together to make politics and law truly representative – and make sure every woman has a seat at the table.
