Hello from GM4Women2028 and welcome to your first monthly blog about all-things gender equality in Greater Manchester.
Each month, we’ll be sharing a round-up of community voices and news – stories, reflections and insights from women, girls and male allies. Whether it’s grassroots action or everyday experiences, our brand-new blog series is designed to spotlight the people and projects shaping our region’s journey towards a better Greater Manchester for women and girls.

From big headlines to interesting jobs, here are a few announcements and roles that’ve caught our eye:
Feminist leadership training programme – Applications are open for the Women’s Resource Centre’s fully-funded training programme, applicable to women involved in voluntary and community organisations. The closing date is Sunday 21st September. Learn more and submit your application.
Student competition: Help us to celebrate 15 years of UK Feminista – Schools and colleges are invited to take part in a design-a-poster competition which creatively expresses the vision of feminism and equality, with winning designs receiving a £50 gift voucher. The deadline for submission is Friday 26th September. Read more and submit entry.
£3 million funding agreement for Women’s Centres Partnership – With new funding opportunities, women’s centres can provide personalised support, helping to tackle underlying causes of crime and supporting women to rebuild their lives. Women Leading in Business – Held monthly by Alliance Manchester Business School, this month’s event is scheduled for 10.00am to 11.30am on Wednesday 17th September. It’s a chance to brush up on your people skills and network with like-minded businesswomen in an informal setting. Grab a ticket for free.
’Breakaway Femmes’ film – A screening of this documentary covering the untold story of the halcyon era of women’s professional cycling when these female sporting pioneers took part in the Tour de France, alongside the men’s event, overcoming logistical and financial challenges in the process. Salford Health & Culture Festival – Taking place on Saturday 20th September from 12.00pm to 4.00pm at Elm Bank Banqueting and Conference Centre in Eccles, this is set to be an afternoon’s celebration of food, music and community with a powerful focus on health and culture. Get your free ticket.
The Power of Localised Data for Gender Equality – Promising to uncover the power of data in influencing policy and advancing equality at every level, this online one-hour event on Thursday 25th September by the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership and Women’s Budget Group is not to miss. The Fix: Simple Strategies for a Stronger You – Hosted at Gorton Monastery on Friday 26th September from 10.00am to 4.00pm by Handbags & Briefcases, it’s a day to inspire, energise and equip you with practical tools to thrive personally and professionally. Read more and buy tickets.
Coming Home Project Showcase & Strategy Day – There are two upcoming events, these being a one-day showcase in London on Monday 6th October from 10.00am to 2.30pm and strategy day in Stockport on Monday 13th October from 10.00am to 3.00pm, both of which support women returning home from prison or serving community sentences. GM4Women2028 monthly community meeting – Happening on Tuesday 7th October from 1.00pm to 2.00pm online via Microsoft Teams, connect with us and others across the wider community. Attend for free.
Men Challenging Sexism Conference – Organised by Male Allies Challenging Sexism (MACS) on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October in Brighton is a two-day anti-sexist and pro-feminist conference for men and boys taking equality seriously and acting in solidarity. Read more and buy tickets.
Voices of Leadership Conference – Women in Business NI is holding this landmark all-day event on Tuesday 18th November at Mandela Hall, Queen’s University Belfast on the theme of ‘courageous leadership’. Read more and secure your ticket.
