🎭 Final chance to enter our SYLVIA musical prize draw to win two tickets
September is the last month to take part in our SYLVIA musical prize draw. Enter before Wednesday 30th September for a chance to receive two tickets (worth £108 in total) to see the acclaimed production SYLVIA at the Lowry Theatre in October.

As well as our SYLVIA prize draw, we’re organising a group visit to the Lowry Theatre on Tuesday 20th October.
For a discounted group rate of £48.60 per person, reduced from the standard ticket price of £54, members of our network can watch SYLVIA together at a more affordable price.

Northern Grit, Sporting Glory – On Friday 25th September, Northern Grit, Sporting Glory is bringing together Olympic and Paralympic stars, business leaders and change makers to celebrate success, spark investment and show the world how Greater Manchester does women’s sport: with heart, grit and purpose. SYLVIA musical group outing – On Tuesday 20th October, members of our community are going to see the new musical about Sylvia Pankhurst at the Lowry Theatre in Salford. Request your £48.60 group discount ticket by emailing info@gm4women2028.org.
Data, Deeds & Determination 2027 – Save the date for 2027 as our annual Reveal event returns to showcase the latest Pankhurst-Fawcett Scorecards, reflect on progress and identify where action is needed. It’s taking place on Friday 5th February online.
Dialogue, Deeds & Determination 2027 – Another save the date for 2027 as our flagship Dialogue event is back to create space for discussion, collaboration and shared learning to collectively accelerate the equality agenda. It’s being held on Saturday 3rd July in Bury.

📍 Women calling for safer, healthier neighbourhoods
Greater Manchester’s women are joining a campaign calling for neighbourhoods where women, children and families can live safely, healthily and with dignity. The Women’s Manifesto for Just Neighbourhoods brings together six priorities – power, homes, health, green, youth and sanctuary – and asks for these to be reflected in national policy.

🙏🏻 Dr Jason Arday: Standing together for justice and change
The death of Dr Jason Arday has prompted widespread grief and serious questions about the intense media scrutiny he faced in the weeks before his death. Dr Arday, a respected sociologist and former Professor at the University of Cambridge, had recently resigned from his position. His death has led to growing calls for greater scrutiny of his treatment and the role of the media. You can read the BBC's version of the story here.
There are ways you can show your support. The Good Law Project is requesting a public inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Dr Arday's death. If you feel able to do so, please consider adding your name to the petition here. You can also support Dr Arday's family by contributing to the fundraising campaign established in his memory here.
For GM4Women2028, this is a story that raises important questions about race, equality, media responsibility, safeguarding and public life. Adding your voice, sharing the campaign or making a contribution are small but meaningful ways to show solidarity with Dr Arday's family and back calls for learning and accountability.
🫱🏻🫲🏻 Supporting Huw McCandless and his family
Sometimes, the stories shared through Equality Brew are deeply personal, but they also remind us of the strength and generosity that exists within our communities. Huw is a 39-year-old GP, husband to Laura and dad to three-year-old Jacob, who has been living with an incurable brain tumour since his diagnosis in 2019.
After surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, his tumour has unfortunately started growing again and he’s now facing further surgery and treatment. His family are raising funds towards access to personalised immunotherapy in Germany, as well as providing financial security for his family during what is an incredibly difficult time.
There is a personal connection to the GM4Women2028 community too. Huw is the son of Professor Jackie Carter, one of our valued community members and the lead of our legacy campaign. Jackie is also a member of Brain Cancer Justice, a campaign group working to improve outcomes and tackle inequalities for people affected by brain cancer.
