Let’s end violence together

Every year between 25th November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and 10th December (Human Rights Day), the world marks the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence – an international campaign calling for an end to violence against women and girls in all its forms.

In 2025, the campaign’s theme is ‘End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls’, shining a spotlight on how abuse, harassment and control in digital spaces mirror and magnify offline violence – and stressing the urgent need to ensure every woman and girl can live, work and express herself safely, both in an online and offline capacity.

At GM4Women2028, we believe the 16 Days of Activism are an opportunity (and responsibility) to raise awareness, connect communities and demand change. This year, in addition to amplifying in-person gatherings across all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, we’re planning a Greater Manchester-wide gathering on Saturday 6th December at the Emmeline Pankhurst statue in St Peter’s Square from 10am to 12pm. We will highlight both the global level of femicide, and the extent of digital violence against women and girls.

Why this campaign matters & getting involved

Digital violence is real violence – whether it’s abusive messages, harassment, threats, image-based exploitation, doxxing, online stalking, whatever – as it negatively impacts women and girls. Offline and online lives become blurred, and survivors often feel unsafe even offline.

By uniting across ten boroughs, we can show a metropolitan front: Greater Manchester says no to digital abuse, and supports survivors, demands accountability and pushes for safer communities.

We need you: join forces with us on 6th December

We’re calling on supporters, allies and advocates to stand with us at Emmeline’s statue for a powerful act of remembrance and resistance. Over the course of two hours, we’ll ring a bell to signal the shocking reality that somewhere in the world, a woman is killed every ten minutes. Each time the bell rings, a volunteer holding a lit candle will extinguish its light. We'll also demonstrate the continuous flow of various types of digital abuse of women and girls.

Alongside this, we’ll be distributing leaflets and speaking with passers-by to encourage others to stand with us too. These small gestures will stop people in their tracks, spark conversation and inspire change.

We’re looking for 10-or-more volunteers to bring this moment to life. If you can lend your time, voice or presence, we’d love to have you with us on 6th December as we say: enough is enough.

Please contact us at info@gm4women2028.org to offer your assistance.

Planning your own events for the 16 Days of Activism?

If your organisation, group or community is marking the 16 Days of Activism, we’d love to hear from you. Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do – it enables us to shout louder, reach further and make a bigger impact.

Whether you’re hosting a vigil, panel discussion, walk, art installation or other activity, let’s explore how we can work together to amplify our shared message about ending violence.

Please get in touch with us at info@gm4women2028.org to coordinate.

Safety first

The safety and wellbeing of everyone involved is at the heart of this campaign. We know that gender-based violence – including its digital forms – can be deeply harming, personal and sensitive, and that safety looks different for everyone. All are welcome to unite with GM4Women2028, whether you want to stand with us, observe quietly or show your support from a distance.

We hope to see you on 6th December in Manchester or another day between 25th November and 10th December. We’re contactable by email at info@gm4women2028.org.
